Now we know why the US Army is looking at using modified Jeep Wranglers as rapid response vehicles. (Search Jeep, March 14). For starters, the Wranglers are much lighter than the Humvees seen plummeting to the ground in this video. (WARNING: Bad language.) It happened during a training exercise with NATO members at US Army base Hohenfels, in Germany. The three Humvees were among a number being dropped by parachutes from C-130 Hercules cargo planes. The initial explanation was: only two of the three chutes opened on the first Humvee; a rigging problem claimed the second truck; chutes on the third truck just didn’t open. US soldiers watching the fiasco unfold found it most amusing.
